Information about the child you played with

Date of birth

Sex: _x_ Male __Female

Child's ID number: 1004

Describe the mood of the child when you began to work with him or her:

Distracted he wanted to play downstairs with the other children.

Please describe the physical conditions that apply to your child today.

Had a cold with a cough; had to go to the bathroom

How did you begin this activity? I described that we were going to play on the computer with a program called kidpix.

What was your opening line? "Today we are going to draw a picture on the computer and then when you are done I want you to tell me a story about your picture and I will type it for you."

Did the child use the mouse and keyboard to draw her or his own picture today or did you work the computer on behalf of the child. Describe precisely who did what?

The majority of the time he used it himself, occasionally he needed my help clicking on the different features.

What features of the program did the child use? (eg. Stamps, freehand drawing. Special visual effects etc.)

He used the stamp sets and paintbrush.

Describe what happened as the child made the picture.

He would talk about why he was placing things were he did. He mostly just concentrated on drawing the picture.

Describe the picture that your child made

He placed the stamps all over the picture. He would place more then one stamp on top of another. He did this in both the picture that he drew.

1. Describe what happened as the child made the picture.

He just placed stamps on top of stamps. He was enthusiastic when I was modeling ta story for him. He told me were I should place thing on My picture. But when it came to his picture he did not seem as enthusiastic.

2. Describe how the child went about telling the story

With the first story he needed encouragement to tell the story. When I was modeling a story he would ask "why didn't you talk about that, it is in the picture." But when it came time to tell his second story all he would do was title it. I praised his first story to show him how well he did but he just wanted to go down and play.

3. Discuss your follow-up of the story in terms of the way the child or you connected the picture and the story to each other or to the child's previous experince(s). He titled the story according to what was in the picture. The story wabased on the objects he placed in the picture. The first picture had snaked all over and the story revolved around snakes.
