Describe the mood of the child when you began to work with him or her: She was extremely excited when we arrived. Even before we started the session she was talking to me about what she likes to do and about herself. She was in a really happy, outgoing mood and was not shy at all. She was laughing and talking the whole time. She told me that she couldn't wait to play and asked me if I would be doing "lots of things" with her and if I would be coming back again.
Please describe the physical conditions that apply to your child today:
She was in good physical conditon. Nothing was wrong at all.
How did you begin this conversation?
It began right away when we got there. I asked who 2015 was and she said it was her and I told her that she would be talking with me. I told her my name and where I was from. Then the teacher asked if it would be okay for us to talk in the kitchen because all the other rooms were taken up. Then she asked 2015 to bring two little chairs in to the kitchen for us. After I helped her with that I told her about the polaroid that we would be taking and asked where she wanted it to be taken, I then told her about her folder, the picture and what we would be doing.
What was your opening line?
My opening line was "Hi, My name is Liz, I'm here from my school to talk to you. First we're going to take a picture of you. Anywhere that you want or with anything that you want in the whole school."
What were the topics you covered?
Many, many topics were covered during our session. We talked about the school, what she did there, what they gave them for snack, what she was wearing, her favorite colors, what she was eating for dinner that night, who makes the pizza that they get for dinner, how the tape recorder is working...
What topics seemed most interesting to the child?
She was really interested in reading this one book where you have to dress up a turtle. She also was really excited to tell me that she was having pizza for dinner that night and all about who makes the pizza that they are going to have for dinner and where they get it. She was also interested in the tape recorder and what it does.
Who led the conversation? I think that we both led the conversation at some points. I would initiate a topic of conversation and then she would go off and tell me something related to it that I hadn't asked about. For example, we were talking about the snacks at the school and what they were when she told me that she was eating pizza for dinner that night. She then told me who made the pizza, how they knew her, what the pizza place was called...I initated the topics but she really embellished upon them
Were there continuing themes?
There really were not many continuing themes. She told me a lot about what she likes and what she likes to do but other than that, a lot of small topics were covered as well.
Did the child play with any toys or do any art activities (instigated by the child)
Yes. She was extremely interested in playing with this one book where I read it to her and it told you what clothes to put on this stuffed animal frog. She really liked this and wanted to start doing it right away. She was under the impression that I was there to play with her and do a lot of different things. It worked out very well though because as we played with the frog, we talked about many topics.
