We all have an innate desire to understand the world around us and are thus intrigued by anything that conflicts with our current understanding. In this workshop we will work on a variety of games, brainteasers and magic tricks that have the potential to not only increase student engagement levels, but also provide students with an intriguing, open-ended environment that encourages genuine exploration and problem solving. The activities are built around a variety of topics related to number sense and operations, connections to algebra, reasoning about area of polygons, and general problem solving strategies. Pedagogical considerations will also be discussed. (Recommended for Grades 4-9)
