Description:
Writing is essential for students to be able to explain their solutions to problems. Students should be involved in re-writing their solutions and evaluating their work using a rubric. They also should be involved in looking at and evaluating other students' work to see how it could be improved. Writing should become an integral part of the math class, and benefits teachers because students' papers become assessment resources. Their writing gives teachers a snap-shot of what they understand, how they approach ideas, and what misconceptions they may have.

Objectives:
  • Writing to become an integral part of the math class.
  • Written explanations become assessment resources.
  • Learning to use rubrics to improve written responses.

  • 5 professional development hours
  • Free eBoard for one year (www.eBoard.com)
  • Integrating writing into the math class.
