Description:
The use of manipulatives becomes a tool in helping to develop and build the foundations for childrens' mathematics. These tools help strengthen students' intuitive mathematical thinking so that they will have a strong conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas. Activities will be presented that will encourage students to explore and communicate either orally or written about their conclusions.

Objectives:
  • Exploring activities that encourage students to develop mathematical ideas.
  • Introducing different manipulatives (color tiles, pattern blocks, Unifix cubes)
  • Developing and sharing childrens' mathematical ideas, both orally and written.

  • Benefits:
  • 5 professional development hours
  • Free eBoard for one year (www.eBoard.com)
  • Integrating manipulatives in the math class
  • Understanding how these tools develop childrens' mathematical thinking
