Description:
This workshop will begin with an examination of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Language Arts Literacy and identification of where different content areas connect to these standards. Attendees will share best practices and lessons they have done that promote literacy in students. Heather will share tips on how to maximize the effectiveness of working across the content areas and how to enhance lessons and create assessments that promote student literacy and performance on the state assessments. At the conclusion of the session, attendees will be able to better articulate how their lessons promote literacy in students using the language of the standards.

Objectives:

To review the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards and state assessments for Language Arts Literacy to identify meaningful connections between content areas

To examine current practice and identify ways to plan lessons that promote proficiency on state assessments

To review a set of resources that teachers can use immediately to promote literacy across content areas
