Description:
This workshop, based largely on the work of Heidi Hayes Jacobs in Mapping the Big Picture: Integrating Curriculum and Assessment K-12 and Getting Results with Curriculum Mapping. During the course of the workshop, we will review the curriculum mapping process and explore resources for mapping middle school and high school science courses. Curriculum mapping is a process of ongoing curriculum and assessment review that identifies core skills and content taught, processes employed, and assessments used for each subject area and grade level. It becomes a “working document” and tool that helps teachers keep track of what has been taught and plan what will be taught in the future. If time permits, participants will have time to begin mapping for a science course. Participants should bring curricular materials, which might include lesson plans from the previous year, the school's written curriculum and/or texts

Objectives:
  • Participants will be exposed to various curriculum-mapping models.
  • Participants will receive resources to help map middle school and high school science curriculum.
  • Participants will examine examples of mapping software and web-based models.
