The popular television show "Shark Tank" is a competition of ingenuity and creativity, pitting would-be inventors against each other in a quest to win financial support and see their ideas move toward becoming actual products.
NJSBA will borrow from that idea at Workshop 2016, launching a new STEAM Tank Challenge which invites school district teams to compete in creative problem-solving.
"Recognizing the Value of Every Student" is the theme of NJSBA's Workshop 2016, which takes place at the Atlantic City Convention Center, Oct. 25-27, 2016. With the theme in mind, NJSBA is inviting district teams to participate in the STEAM Tank Challenge.
The US Army is the sponsor of the iSTEAM Command Center with STEAM Tank at Workshop. NJSBA is collaborating with them on the challenge.
This challenge will provide an avenue for students and their teachers to enhance and promote the Integrative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) education initiatives taking place in New Jersey.
This new Workshop feature will challenge school districts to invent something new, modify an existing product, or identify a situation or problem that needs resolution. The design or solution will be judged in a similar format to Shark Tank®; and contestant must follow a set of rules and guidelines if the challenge is accepted. If the entry is a concept, or an idea to solve a situation or a problem rather than a physical invention, the pitch to the judges must clearly outline a plan to accomplish the end result.
The judging of the STEAM Tank Challenge submission will take place live on the exhibit floor in the Integrative STEAM Command Center on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26, 2016.
Entries are being accepted via a Google Doc with the deadline for receiving completed application forms June 17.
