In this workshop we will use pattern blocks and geoboards to explore questions related to polygons, area and perimeter, and similarity. What types of polygonal regions can be created with each type of manipulative? What can be said about their interior and exterior angles? What difficulties arise in trying to compute the perimeter and area of such polygons? The problems will cover a wide range of difficulty levels, and we will discuss both informal and theoretical approaches to geometric reasoning.
